The person behind the Keep

Meet the Keeper

An orange cat sits on a windowsill, looking out at a twilight sky shaded blue, purple, and orange.

My name is April, and I am the person behind Twilight Keep.

Gaming and family

Gaming has been part of my life since I was young. Some of my best memories come from Saturday nights around the family kitchen table with pizza, a deck of cards, or a board game spread out in front of us. We did not need anything elaborate. We played, laughed, talked, and sometimes argued over the rules. What mattered most was spending that time together.

As I grew into adulthood, gaming became one of the ways I relaxed when evening came. I began playing cards online while helping care for my mom, who had Alzheimer's. Caregiving could be exhausting, and those games gave me a chance to settle down for a while, visit with friends, and take my mind off the harder parts of the day.

Acknowledgements

King with an Axe, Wild Flower, Quiet Dreamer, Cheetah Bang, Hog Wild, and Host Woman, you know who you are if you visit this site. You have all been important to me throughout my gaming experience. I think of the games we played, the conversations we had, and the time we spent together as I work on this site.

In memory of Marty, my dear departed friend.

Why I built Twilight Keep

As a blind gamer, I appreciate the accessible game sites and communities that have given visually impaired people places to play for many years. I am not trying to replace what anyone else has built. I simply wanted to create another place where blind and sighted players can meet at the same tables and enjoy games together.

My goal is not to build the biggest gaming site on the internet. I would rather build a comfortable one. I want it to feel a little like those Saturday nights around the kitchen table, where people could pull up a chair, play a few hands, talk, and relax. New players should feel welcome, and experienced players should be able to enjoy themselves without everything becoming overly serious or competitive.

The site is beginning with three games, but I hope to add more as time and resources allow. Some ideas may work, while others may change along the way. I would also like to include practical daily living tips and perhaps a collection of good home-cooking recipes. Those additions may seem different from gaming, but they come from the same idea of creating a useful and friendly place where people can share what they know.

Accessibility and feedback

Accessibility will remain an important part of the site as it grows. I know that no program or website is perfect for every person, device, or screen reader. I welcome honest feedback when something is confusing, difficult to use, or not working as expected. Bug reports and suggestions help me find problems I may not discover on my own.

Thank you to everyone who supports my goal of building a nice little community for anyone who wishes to join us. Whether you stop by for a quick game or become a regular player, I hope you enjoy your time here.
